Katie has a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Social Work conferred by York University, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Katie has 9 years of experience working as a clinical social worker and Child and Family Therapist at a Canadian accredited children’s mental health agency where she provided clinical support to children and families with social, emotional and/or behavioural needs. Katie works with all ages, with parents and toddlers, school aged children, adolescents and young adults. She is experienced in working with children with developmental disabilities. Katie also works with anxiety, depression, stress, sexual identity and other issues young adults face.
Her previous experience includes working in a mental health clinic that supported children on a wide range of issues including fear, hearing loss, depression, loneliness, anxiety, worries, school issues, bullying, peer conflicts, low self-esteem, ADD/ADHD, self harm and thoughts of suicide. Katie has supported many children and youth who have experienced trauma, such as, but not limited to, death of someone significant, car accidents, loss, emotional, physical or/and sexual abuse. Katie studied American Sign Language in University and has been a fluent signer for over 10 years. She works with children who have a cochlear implant(s), use BAHA or FM systems or use American Sign Language. Katie is available to assist schools on how to support the needs of a child with hearing loss and disabilities.
Although Katie is experienced in working with children, she works with young adults and adults as well. Katie is an LGBTQ+ ally.
