Focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (FACT) is a new model of brief therapy that is a highly condensed version of a well-established longer-term treatment called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). The FACT model applies strategies to help people transform their relationship with unwanted, distressing experiences, such as disturbing thoughts, unpleasant emotions, painful memories or uncomfortable physical symptoms. We will not attempt to change the content of these events; we will discover, instead, that attempts to control distressing experiences result in constrained and unworkable patterns of behaviour. When people become preoccupied with managing these uncomfortable experiences, they cannot attend to the immediate needs of their life situation. They can become rigid, ineffective problem solvers. In FACT, we will aim to create a plan to help you solve your problem effectively.
Benefits of FACT:
- Same-day or next-day appointments, online via secure video call
- Less time and cost than traditional therapy (typically 30 minutes sessions)
- Sessions include an option to create two possible interventions to address the problem.
- Follow-up sessions or longer sessions are always optional
Focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (FACT) sessions are offered by Dr. Rick Smith. Please contact us for bookings or with any questions.
